Why You Should Read

Some people don't like to read but it may actually be argued that reading is good for you.

First, reading can make your stress less. Second, books build your brain's grey matter. Finally,

books give you a happiness boost. I believe that everyone should have a chance to read to help improve their health.

First, reading can make you stress less. Researchers at the University of Sussex found that reading is better at reducing your stress than listening to music, taking a walk, and drinking a cup of tea. This is good for your health and happiness because a stress can zap energy, and can even cause sickness and disease. Also, just six minutes of reading was enough to slow heart rate and ease muscle tension.

Second, books build your brain's grey matter. Getting lost in a good book can keep you from losing your memory. Another study found that those who engaged in brainy pursuits (-reading, chess, and puzzles) were 2.5 times less likely to develop alzheimer's disease. Reading can mean a 32% slower rate of cognitive decline.

Finally, books give you a happiness boost. You already know that money isn’t the secret to happiness so what is? The University of North Texas study found that older adults who continue to read and learn are much more satisfied with their lives. A study published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology shows that experiential products designed to create or enhance life experiences like books, are total happiness boosters.

In conclusion, reading can make you stress less, books build your brain's grey matter, and books give you a happiness boost. If you don’t read you can get diseases, lose memory, and even have your heart rate go to high make sure to pick up a book and read. Read while you have a chance. It can save your life.
